Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Smiling man receiving a dental checkup

Our team at Taylor Street Dental recommends visiting a general dentist every three to four months for a routine checkup and cleaning. During your appointment, one of our skilled dentists will examine your mouth and X-rays in search of any signs of common oral health problems like cavities or gum disease. If any issues are identified, we will create a treatment plan to address the issue and keep it from progressing. You’ll also receive a thorough professional teeth cleaning from one of our skilled dental hygienists, who will teach you how to keep your teeth for years to come, and hopefully forever.

Oral Cancer Screenings

During each of your visits and checkups, our team will also complete an oral cancer screening. This involves conducting both a visual and Velscope examination of your throat, tongue, neck, and mouth for any abnormalities. If we do spot anything, we will refer you to the appropriate specialist for further testing. Our goal is to find any possible signs as early as possible to increase the chances of successful treatment.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a mineral that’s naturally produced by rocks and found in all areas of nature, from the air we breathe to the soil that our food grows in. However, most people know it because it’s added to municipal water sources and found in most dental hygiene products. This is because fluoride acts to strengthen the enamel and minimize the risk of tooth decay. Our team can apply a fluoride varnish onto your teeth to help keep your smile cavity-free after your routine cleaning if you would like!

Bruxism & TMJ Treatment

Teeth grinding and TMJ disorder are closely linked conditions that can lead to a number of consequential oral health concerns, like worn down teeth, lockjaw, and more. Our team offers several different treatment options to help protect your teeth from the harmful impact of bruxism and TMJ, including cushioning nightguards, occlusal splints, and equilibration. We also offer treatment with our state-of-the-art TENS machine, which sends a very small electrical current to the muscles surrounding the jaw joints to increase oxygen to the muscles, reduce pain, and stimulate the body’s natural pain-relievers, endorphins.
