The process of applying veneers

While it would be great to wake up each day with a stunning smile, not everyone is born with straight, white, and perfect teeth. This is especially true as patients age and injury, decay, or other issues have impacted their teeth, gums, and jawbone. But thanks to cosmetic dental procedures, patients can now address a wide range of imperfections near the front of the smile with porcelain veneers, which offer coverage and beauty.

The consultation for porcelain veneers

The first step is finding out if you are a candidate for porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are a wonderful solution for many of our patients, but not everyone is a good fit. Patients book a consultation and initial evaluation at My Great Smiles to find out more about these restorations and determine candidacy. Other options may be recommended based on a patient’s current situation, such as composite resin bonding or dental crowns.

Preparation of the smile

To prepare the smile for porcelain veneers, a thin portion of natural tooth enamel is removed from the front-facing portion of the tooth. Then, impressions are made of the tooth and used to fabricate the final restoration. Patients will need to wait as their veneer is made at a dental laboratory with a ceramist.

Placement of porcelain veneers

Once the final restoration is complete, it is sent back to the dental office for application. The dentist will remove any temporary veneer that was placed and bond the new restoration onto the natural tooth to complete the process.  Care instructions on how to extend the longevity of porcelain veneers are discussed with the patient so they understand the ways in which they can care for their veneers while also keeping the rest of their smile healthy!
