Visiting the dentist can be a nerve-wracking experience for many patients, even adults. However, thanks to continued advances in dentistry, patients in and around Springfield, MA are able to obtain necessary dental work without feeling anxious. Taylor Street Dental is proud to offer sedation dentistry.
What is Sedation Dentistry?
When patients are uneasy about visiting the dentist for dental care, they will want to work with a practice that offers sedation dentistry. This is a focus on sedatives to put patients at ease and help them get through their dental appointment without fear and anxiety. Our practice offers two methods of sedation, including oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is the use of an oral medication prior to the dental appointment to ensure that patients are at ease and relaxed when they arrive. This medication can last a few hours, allowing patients to be comfortable throughout their dental treatment. Patients using this type of sedation will need to arrange transportation to and from their appointment as they are unable to drive while this medication is in their system. Many patients spend the remainder of the day resting when they return home.
Nitrous Oxide
A faster and yet reliable way of addressing mild anxieties is with the use of nitrous oxide. This is a special odorless and colorless gas that the patient has administered through their nose to provide almost immediate relaxation. Some patients get giggly while under nitrous oxide, which is how it earned the title of “laughing gas” with many of our patients. Others may fall asleep because they are so incredibly relaxed during their treatments.
The team of Taylor Street Dental in Springfield, MA is here to help individuals in achieving the smile they’ve always wanted, and to work with them in a way that makes them feel comfortable.
