Get Your Fill: 3 Different Types of Teeth Fillings
Created on November 15, 2016
If you recently found out from Dr. David Peck that you have a cavity, then you are likely going to need to have it filled with a filling. As a method used to seal off your tooth from bacteria, food, or plaque, a filling will help to restore your tooth back to its original functionality. However, did you know that there are actually 3 different types of fillings that are fairly common? Read on to learn more.
1.Metal or Silver Amalgam Fillings
Although we don’t personally offer metal fillings at our office, metal fillings are popular among patients who desire a durable filling without spending too much money. Made primarily of mercury, metal fillings are also composed of zinc, tin, and copper. Although metal or silver amalgam fillings are strong, they don’t match the natural color of your teeth which makes them stand out a bit from the crowd.
2. Composite Fillings
As the type of filling that Dr. David Peck likes to use at our office, composite fillings blend right in with your teeth and are pretty much undetectable. Made of thin, durable, tooth-colored resin, composite fillings are not only strong but they are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. In fact, composite fillings aren’t just used to treat cavities but are also used for cosmetic purposes as well.
3. Gold Fillings
Gold fillings are strong, expensive filings that are popular amongst certain individuals who may want a flashier look. However, because they are expensive, they aren’t necessarily considered to be a type of filling that’s economical.
As you can see, there are three different types of popular fillings that you can choose from when you go to get your cavity filled. However, because Dr. David Peck only offers composite fillings your options are a bit more limited.
